France is discussing with its allies the possibility of holding an informal meeting of European Union leaders dedicated to Ukraine, but there is no specific date yet, the French President's office announced today, quoted by Reuters and BTA.
The statement was made in response to claims by Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, who during a speech at the Munich Security Conference said that French President Emmanuel Macron had invited European leaders to a summit in Paris.
"President Trump has a method of work that the Russians call 'reconnaissance by combat'. You apply pressure, observe what happens and then change your position," Sikorski said. "I am very glad that President Macron invited our leaders to Paris tomorrow and I expect them to respond seriously to this invitation," he added.
Later, an official from the French president's office specified that if a summit is organized, it will not take place tomorrow.
"I am glad that (Polish) Prime Minister Donald Tusk will respond to President Emmanuel Macron's invitation for a meeting of European leaders on Monday. We must show our strength and unity," the Polish foreign minister later wrote on the social network "Ex".
Meanwhile, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaia Kallas, has convened an informal meeting of foreign ministers of EU member states participating in the Munich Security Conference tomorrow. The aim is to review recent contacts with American and Ukrainian officials, a spokeswoman for Kallas said on the social network "Ex".
"We are at a crucial moment for the future of Ukraine and Europe. Europe stands with Ukraine," the statement added.
