Israel is destabilizing the situation in southern Syria, and the new authorities in Damascus are seeking support from the international community to maintain peace. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs in the transitional government of the republic of Assad, Hassan al-Shibani, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
“Israel is destabilizing the situation in southern Syria“, he said, emphasizing that the new authorities in Damascus intend to comply with the 1974 agreement on the separation of forces and are ready for the return of UN observers to maintain peace. “We ask the whole world and the whole region to give the Syrian people a chance to live in peace and stability“, said al-Shibani.
Meanwhile, a new wave of mass demonstrations took place in Israel in support of the continuation of the process of releasing hostages held in the Gaza Strip. The largest demonstration traditionally took place near the government buildings complex in eastern Tel Aviv.
The participants demanded that the Israeli government fully implement the agreement, which provides for a temporary ceasefire in the Palestinian enclave and the release of some Israelis held there, and also called on the government of Benjamin Netanyahu to begin negotiations on the second phase of the Gaza deal.
Many demonstrators came with portraits of their fellow citizens who remained in Gaza.
“The whole country is watching today the return of Yair, Sasha and Saga, who spent 498 days in captivity. Their lives were saved thanks to the agreement. We will not stop until we see all the abductees returned, both the living, who will be rehabilitated, and the dead, for a proper burial“, said a statement from the organizers of the demonstration.
The Israeli Air Force attacked the commander of the Shiite organization Hezbollah's aerial drone launch center in southern Lebanon, the Israel Defense Forces press service reported.
“The terrorist, who held a key position, was attacked after repeatedly violating the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon over the past few weeks and directing drones to fly into Israeli territory“, the statement said.
