The Chinese authorities hope for a fair settlement to resolve the Ukrainian crisis and support efforts to restore peace. This was stated by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Andriy Sibiga.

“China supports all efforts to restore peace. We hope to reach a fair and lasting peace agreement that is binding and acceptable to all parties“, the Chinese Foreign Ministry quoted the Chinese diplomat who met with Sibiga on February 15 at the Munich Security Conference.

As Wang Yi explained, Beijing has always advocated a peaceful settlement of the crisis and has made appropriate efforts to achieve this. He pointed to "objectivity, fairness, rationality and pragmatism" as the four principles for the Ukrainian conflict proposed by President Xi Jinping - respecting sovereignty, abiding by the UN Charter, taking into account the concerns of each party and using peaceful methods.

Wang Yi added that China will continue to play a constructive role in the political settlement of the Ukrainian issue and make efforts to achieve peace. He added that China, together with countries in the global south, will strengthen the consensus to advance dialogue.

According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Sibiga promised that Kiev would do everything possible to ensure the safety of Chinese organizations and citizens. He also noted that the Ukrainian authorities appreciate China's objective position and hope that it will play an important role in achieving a comprehensive, just and sustainable peace.
