Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Russian authorities "bear responsibility" for the death of opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who died in prison a year ago, said the head of European diplomacy Kaya Kalas, quoted by Agence France-Presse and BTA.
"Navalny gave his life for a free and democratic Russia", she added in a statement, which also called on Moscow "to immediately and unconditionally release Alexei Navalny's lawyers and all political prisoners".
Alexei Navalny's widow, Yulia, for her part, called on his supporters today to continue their fight for a "peaceful and free" Russia.
"We know why we are fighting: a Russia of the future, free, peaceful and beautiful, the one Alexei dreamed of, is possible. Let's do everything to make his dream come true," Yulia Navalny calls in a video posted today by her team.
She wrote today on "Instagram" that not a day has passed when she hasn't thought about Navalny, consulted him in her mind and had discussions with him, DPA added.
"I love you very much. I miss you very much," the post reads.
