The US has asked its European allies to say what they would need from Washington to participate in security arrangements in Ukraine and outline how they see lasting guarantees, according to a document seen by Reuters, quoted by BTA.
The document, consisting of six points and questions, also asks which countries could contribute to the guarantees, whether they would be willing to deploy troops to Ukraine as part of a peace solution, and the size of a possible European-led force.
The document also asks what governments would be willing to do to increase sanctions against Russia, including stricter enforcement of existing ones.
„What requirements for US support, if any, does your government see as necessary for its participation in these security arrangements? Specifically, what short-term and long-term resources do you think the United States would need?“, one of the questions asks.
The document also asks which European and/or third-party countries they believe could or would participate in such an agreement, and whether their country would be willing to send troops to Ukraine as part of a peace agreement.
“If third-party military forces were to be deployed to Ukraine as part of a peace agreement, what size of such a European-led force would you consider necessary? How and where will these forces be deployed and for what period of time?“, the document also states.
The parties were also asked what actions the United States, allies and partners should be prepared to take if Russia attacks these forces.
“What additional capabilities, equipment and sustainment capabilities is your government prepared to provide to Ukraine to improve its negotiating position and increase pressure on Russia?“, the questionnaire asks.
It also asks what governments would be prepared to do to increase sanctions against Russia, including stricter enforcement of existing ones.
