Demonstrations with opposing aims took place in Munich - 1

The deadly car attack in Munich sparked opposing demonstrations near the scene of the incident on Sunday, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.

The far-right anti-immigrant party "Alternative for Germany" (AfD) organized a vigil on the central square "Königsplatz", a few hundred meters from "Seidlstrasse" street, where the attack took place on Thursday. An Afghan immigrant has been arrested in connection with the attack and there are suspicions that he had an Islamist motive for his act.

Opponents of the use of the attack for political purposes held their own demonstration against the AfD rally.

There was a heavy police presence to separate the two demonstrations that took place in the Bavarian capital. According to law enforcement, the number of people attending the AfD vigil was 70 people, while the other demonstration was 600.

The family of the Algerian woman and her child who died in the attack called for their case not to be exploited. They died in hospital on Saturday. At least 37 people were injured.
