Romania must do more to explain what happened during last year's presidential elections and the reaction of state institutions to the attempts to encroach on their integrity and legality, as a result of which equal chances for candidates were affected, Interior Minister Catalin Predoiu said, quoted by Agerpres and BTA.

„The new administration in Washington plans a rapid transformation of the architecture of international relations and the security environment. In the face of these dynamic changes, Romania must adapt quickly and build a solid and proactive position,“ he noted.

Predoiu, who is also interim chairman of the National Liberal Party, stressed that “internal stability is essential for finding the best ways to represent and defend our interests, while remaining faithful to our Euro-Atlantic partnerships, as a member state of the European Union and NATO”.

Calling for free and fair elections, Predoiu indicated that “he is convinced that our official and informal diplomacy will find the best means for the successful development of this clarification process. Our interest is for us to hold a free, fair, legal and transparent vote. It is important to protect democracy from any form of threat, hate speech and violence. The National Liberal Party will also continue to support the strengthening of Romania's defense capacity - an important guarantee for our security.”
