The New York Post claims, citing a source close to Trump, that according to the White House “it is best for Zelensky and the world for him to leave for France immediately“.
Trump's entourage also reinforces the president's publicly announced views of Washington – Zelensky and Ukraine are to blame for Russia's war. Trump even called Zelensky a “dictator“, and according to Kiev's European allies, the American president is repeating the narratives of Russian propaganda.
The favorite for German Chancellor Friedrich Merz expressed his shock at the statements of US President Donald Trump. “This is a classic mixing of the roles of victim and executioner“, Merz said.
The New York Post writes that Zelensky has fewer and fewer allies in Trump's inner circle. The deteriorating relations between the two threaten to undermine Kiev's position in peace talks with Russia. Relations between the two leaders turned into open hostility this week after Ukraine's president rejected an initial US offer to give over 50% of his country's rare earths to the US in return for military aid.
Trump called Zelensky a "dictator", falsely claiming that the Ukrainian president had a 4% approval rating, and even said that he had provoked Russia's invasion in February 2022. Zelensky in turn accused US President Trump of being the victim of disinformation.
