NATO plans to build a network of pipelines from Germany to Poland and the Czech Republic for rapid delivery of jet fuel for fighter jets in the event of a war with Russia, Reuters reported, citing the German magazine "Spiegel", BTA reported.
The alliance's current pipeline network dates back to the Cold War. The pipes end in western Germany.
According to "Spiegel" there are "significant problems in the sustainable supply of fuel for the armed forces that must be deployed on NATO's eastern flank in the event of an emergency".
According to reports intended for high-ranking officials in the German Ministry of Defense, talks between NATO member states on the pipeline network, which is the "backbone of supply" of the alliance, have ended. According to "Spiegel", the project to expand the pipeline network is worth 21 billion euros, Reuters specifies.
