US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called on UN member states on Friday to support a new resolution on the war in Ukraine proposed by the US, Agence France-Presse reported, BTA reported. Rubio described the resolution as "simple" and "historic".
"The United States is proposing a simple and historic UN resolution that we call on all member states to support in order to pave the way for peace," Rubio said in a statement, which did not provide details on the content of the resolution.
The vote on the resolution is scheduled for Monday, Agence France-Presse explains. The UN General Assembly will meet on Monday to mark the third anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
To mark the anniversary, Ukraine and European countries have prepared a draft resolution that stresses the need to step up diplomatic efforts to end the war "this year." The United States has prepared its own draft resolution, which is reported to be just 65 words long.
