The US will submit a draft resolution to the UN General Assembly on February 24 to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced via the social network X.

According to him, on February 24 the US will "propose a historic UN resolution that all members of the organization must support to pave the way for peace". Rubio said that US President Donald Trump is "committed to ending" the Ukrainian conflict.

A statement from the US State Department attached to the announcement said that Trump is seeking "a resolution to the conflict that would ensure long-term peace". The draft resolution developed by the US, according to the US State Department “is consistent with this position, as well as with the principle of peaceful settlement of disputes enshrined in the UN Charter“. All countries that share “the original values of the UN must agree that peace is possible”. The resolution states that the conflict in Ukraine is “terrible, the UN can help end it, and peace is possible”.

“We believe that the time has come to contribute to ending the conflict. [The adoption of the resolution is our opportunity to strengthen the movement towards peace”, the statement said.

Earlier it became known that the US for the first time refused to be a co-author of the draft of the “anti-Russian” resolution of the UN General Assembly on Ukraine, and now they are proposing their own, which does not contain accusations against Russia for starting the conflict. The text of the document also expresses grief over the tragic victims in the “Russian-Ukrainian conflict“ and calls for its speedy end.

A source from the UN Security Council told TASS that representatives of a number of EU countries at the UN will hold an extraordinary meeting today to discuss the US decision to submit a neutral resolution on Ukraine.

Commenting on the information that the US is not a co-author of the draft anti-Russian resolution on Ukraine in the UN General Assembly, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that this “testifies to pragmatism as the essence of the policy of the Donald Trump administration“. According to the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, "Trump emphasizes at meetings with leaders of a number of countries that his main slogan is common sense, and this applies to his position on Ukraine".
