A Russian-American meeting at the level of heads of departments is planned in the next two weeks, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
“There is an agreement in principle to hold relevant comprehensive consultations for a systematic and detailed development of the entire block of problems. We need to receive information about who our interlocutor from the American side will be at this level. Our readiness to start this as soon as possible has been confirmed to the Americans. There is also an understanding that the round at the level of deputies will be preceded by consultative contact of the directors of the relevant departments. And their meeting may take place within the next two weeks," he said.
The diplomat specified that the meeting will be held in a third country, a specific location is currently being agreed upon.
"We conveyed elements of our approach to the pressing issues for discussion back in Riyadh. The Americans are currently considering them. We will further specify them, including, if necessary, providing them with individual parameters of our proposals in writing for easier processing," Ryabkov explained.
After the talks in Riyadh, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Moscow and Washington had agreed to soon hold a meeting of their deputies to remove obstacles in bilateral relations.
The high-level Russian-American talks were held in Saudi Arabia and lasted four and a half hours. From the Russian side, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov participated in the discussion. Washington was represented by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Advisor Michael Walz, and Special Envoy for the Middle East Stephen Witkoff.
After the meeting, the parties agreed to create conditions for the full resumption of cooperation, to remove restrictions on the work of embassies, and to launch the process of resolving the situation in Ukraine.
The presidents of the United States and Russia highly appreciated the negotiations.
