US President Donald Trump said that his country is close to concluding a deal with Ukraine for its minerals, world agencies reported. According to the deal, revenues from Ukrainian minerals will be shared with the United States, Reuters points out.
The deal is part of efforts to end the war in Ukraine.
In front of delegates to the Conservative Political Action Conference, which is being held on the outskirts of Washington, Trump said that the United States wants to return billions of dollars provided to Ukraine in the form of military aid.
Trump said that the United States wants rare earth elements, oil and "everything we can take" from Ukraine.
At the conference, Trump was greeted like a real rock star. The packed hall applauded him and chanted "USA", notes Agence France-Presse. Trump appeared in a blue suit and pink tie.
In his speech, he attacked supporters of globalization, as well as "the pernicious group of Marxists from the far left who are going to war".
Trump's speech lasted nearly an hour and a half. During it, he touched on a wide range of topics, as is usual for him. Periodically, his statements were greeted by cheers from a group of his supporters at the back of the hall, chanting "D-6" and referring to the fact that one of the first things Trump did when he came to power was to pardon the Capitol attackers on January 6, 2021.
