For a faster peace: US urges UN to support its neutral resolution on Ukraine - 1

The US has circulated a diplomatic note to the UN General Assembly calling for support for the neutral resolution on Ukraine proposed earlier and for a vote against the anti-Russian one, Reuters reported.

According to the agency, Washington has asked the parties to "vote against any other resolution or amendments" that may be presented on Monday. The US explained its appeal by saying that the draft it proposed is "a forward-looking resolution focused on a simple idea - ending the war". The US also believes that by adopting its document, "UN Member States will be able to give a real boost to international peace and security, the maintenance of which is a key objective of the UN."

For the first time, the United States refused to co-sponsor the draft "anti-Russian" resolution of the UN General Assembly on Ukraine, and the document they proposed does not contain accusations against Russia for starting the conflict.

The text also expresses regret for the tragic victims in the "Russian-Ukrainian conflict" and calls for its rapid end. Initially, Kiev and Western countries were expected to submit their draft resolution to a vote in the UN General Assembly, which they do every year at the end of February. Now the General Assembly schedule includes a vote on the US draft resolution.
