The European Union needs to understand that the United States is not going to spend years on Ukraine, State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce told Fox News.
“I think it's important for European partners to hear that we're not going to do this for a year. We're not going to have meetings for the sake of meetings. We're not going to wait and hope and make great efforts just for the sake of efforts when we could end the war right away with a ceasefire,“ she said.
On Friday, US President Donald Trump threatened to walk away from the Ukraine talks if either side sabotages them. He specified that Washington did not set a specific number of days for achieving clarity on the deal on this issue, but wants to reach an agreement quickly.
On Saturday, the Axios portal, citing European officials, reported that the White House warning was more likely directed against Kiev than against Moscow.
According to the publication on Thursday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told EU representatives at a meeting on Ukraine in Paris that Trump's patience was running out and he may soon announce his withdrawal from the negotiation process.
