Witkoff to meet with Israeli intelligence chief ahead of Iran talks - 1

US President's special envoy Steve Witkoff will meet with the Israeli Mossad chief in Paris on April 18. David Barnea and Israeli Strategic Planning Minister Ron Dermer before the talks with Iran, reported the correspondent of the American news portal Axios Barak Ravid, citing sources in Israel.

„On Friday, before the talks on the nuclear deal with Iran in Rome, Secretary Ron Dermer and Mossad head „Barney went to Paris to meet with White House envoy Steven Witkoff“, Ravid wrote in X. He did not provide any further details.

Earlier, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel would not allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons. The text reports that Netanyahu has “led countless overt and covert operations“ that have ensured that Iran does not have a nuclear capability today.

The second round of talks between Iran and the United States to resolve the dispute over Tehran's nuclear program will be held in Rome on April 19. Last week, indirect talks between U.S. and Iranian representatives, mediated by Oman, were held in Muscat to resolve the situation surrounding the Islamic Republic's nuclear program. The Iranian delegation is led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, while the American delegation is led by special presidential envoy Steve Witkoff. The talks in Oman marked the first high-level contacts between officials from the two countries since 2022. They are aimed at resolving the long-standing dispute over Iran's nuclear program. Trump has repeatedly said he is prepared to use force if the Islamic Republic refuses to accept the deal.
