The center of European diplomacy must be in Brussels and must be very united, because for the past 10 days we have been living in a completely new security environment and completely new threats. This was said in the program "From the Day" on BNT by MEP Radan Kanev, quoted by novini.bg.
In a period of 5-10 years, Europe must prepare to ensure its security on its own – with its own army, its own economy, its own military industry. Europe must be as united as possible. If, for example, 3-4 countries hinder a common decision in foreign policy, the remaining 23-24 must act very categorically and boldly together with NATO members Great Britain and Finland, Kanev said.
You may hear that we are weak, but we are not. You may hear that we are poor, that we have no industry, that we have no economy, that we have no military industry, but all this is not true - we have a strong economy, a strong military industry, a strong aviation. We have an industry that can take on any need for our defense at any moment. We only lack unity in the fact that we are in a completely new situation. The new situation is that the Trump administration has not just taken Russia's position on the war in Ukraine, but is waving the Russian card against Europe, making a bid to dictate European political decisions. Politicians from all political families should unite here and say that we do not agree with this. The Trump administration's interference in the German elections has destroyed Berlin's trust in the US for the next 10-20 years. The consequence should be a very clear and very strong European security policy, the MEP pointed out.
He also commented on President Rumen Radev's distancing from European leaders for their position on the war in Ukraine and the head of state's declaration of full support for the US position.
Radev's position is wrong and dangerous. This is a position that is different from the European one, at a time of threat. This position will become tenfold if Ukraine capitulates. What the Trump administration is proposing and our president seems to support is not a lasting and just peace, but the destruction of Ukrainian independence. It is not right for the two most powerful countries in the world to attack a much smaller country. This is a revival of an imperial mentality that has led to tens of millions of victims. The question is whether Europe is willing to divide into camps and fall victim to this mentality or will it realize its power to defend itself so that we can live in peace and democracy, Radan Kanev also said.
In response to a question, he noted that he hopes the convergence report on Bulgaria's entry into the eurozone will be positive. It is positive for Bulgaria to be part of the common currency, there is no doubt about that, Kanev emphasized.
