US Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed Russia's war in Ukraine with Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky, as Washington and Europe try to regroup after US President Donald Trump's clash with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

The two officials The representatives discussed U.S.-Czech relations, "including support for peace and stability, increasing NATO defense spending, and purchasing U.S. technology to help meet the Czech Republic's energy needs," State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce said in a statement after their call.

Rubio also "underscored President Trump's determination to bring a lasting end to the Russia-Ukraine war," she added.

Lipavsky said in an op-ed in "Ex" that working with the U.S. for a just and lasting peace for Ukraine remains a priority for the Czech government. "We discussed mutually beneficial transatlantic cooperation, including Europe significantly increasing burden-sharing," he said.

French Prime Minister François Bayrou welcomed the fact that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had not backed down in his spat with his US counterpart Donald Trump. Bayrou said the White House meeting between the two presidents was a "stunning scene, marked by brutality and a desire for humiliation," AFP reported, quoted by BTA.

““For the honor of democratic responsibility, for the honor of Ukraine and, I dare say, for the honor of Europe, the (Ukrainian) president did not back down and I think we can express our gratitude for that“, the prime minister said in a debate in the French parliament on Ukraine and European security.

“We are strong and we don't know it. And we act as if we are weak“, Bayrou added, as Paris and its allies seek an answer to a possible US withdrawal from Ukraine.

“The EU's gross domestic product, added to that of Britain, is more than ten times larger than Russia's GDP“ and “if we compare the arsenals [...], our continental armed forces, added to those of the United Kingdom, that is more than 2.5 million professional soldiers, 25% more than the Russian forces. We have 3,000 combat aircraft [...], twice as many as the United States and twice as many as the Russian air force“, the Prime Minister added.
