Europe will expand its military capacity "faster, smarter and more effectively" than Russia, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said upon his arrival at the European summit on Ukraine in Brussels, quoted by News.bg.
Tusk expressed confidence that the United States will resume sending military aid to Ukraine after deciding to stop it earlier this week. He acknowledged that under President Donald Trump, the US is "a more demanding partner" compared to before, but stressed that the alliance between the US and Europe remains "an absolute priority".
The EU summit was also attended by Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky. He expressed gratitude to European leaders for their continued support, stressing that this meant that Ukraine was not "alone" in its fight against Russian aggression.
The President of the European Council, António Costa, described the meeting as a "very important moment" for European security, while the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said it was a "watershed moment for Europe." She stressed that Ukraine was part of the European family and that Europe must put it in a position where it could defend itself and strive for a lasting and just peace.
