Donald Trump has threatened Russia with large-scale sanctions and tariffs and is demanding talks with Ukraine. "To Russia and Ukraine: sit down at the negotiating table immediately - before it's too late."
Following the massive Russian attacks on Ukraine last night, US President Donald Trump has threatened Russia with sanctions.
"Until a peace agreement is reached"
On his social platform Truth Social, he wrote that Putin's troops are currently "tearing up Ukraine" on the battlefield. In his post, he threatens "wide-ranging banking sanctions, sanctions and tariffs against Russia until a ceasefire and a final peace agreement are reached".
"Sit down at the negotiating table immediately"
Trump also addresses Russia and Ukraine directly: "Sit down at the negotiating table immediately before it's too late. Thank you!!!", the US president writes.
Suddenly the tone changes
Trump had already threatened Vladimir Putin with sanctions over the war in Ukraine shortly after taking office. At the time, he wrote: "Stop this insane war. It will only get worse."
However, Trump's tone towards Moscow has changed significantly recently. The US president called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky a "dictator". And after the scandal in the White House a week ago, the US government even temporarily suspended military aid to the country attacked by Russia.
