Concerns have arisen in Germany about the implementation of a multi-billion dollar deal with the United States to purchase American fifth-generation F-35 fighters for the Bundeswehr.
The reason is the series of decisions by US President Donald Trump regarding Ukraine, especially after the termination of the transfer of data to Kiev for the guidance of HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems, writes Bild.
Berlin fears that the F-35A, which is to be delivered to the Bundeswehr, will be equipped with a remote shutdown system and the US, if it decides, will simply deactivate these combat systems.
Germany intends to purchase 35 American fighters for 8.3 billion euros. Deliveries are to begin in 2026. Several billion euros more will be spent on rebuilding the F-35 infrastructure.
“If we have concerns that the US will do the same to future German F-35s as they are currently doing in Ukraine, then we could consider terminating the contract“, Bild quotes former head of the Munich Security Conference Wolfgang Ischinger as saying.
Unknown individuals, suspected of being left-wing radicals, set fire to Bundeswehr vehicles in Berlin. Seven military vehicles were damaged, Bild reported.
The incident occurred on the night of March 8 in the Spandau district. Passersby who noticed the fire in the fenced area called the fire department.
Later on the online platform Indymedia, a group called Agenda2029 claimed responsibility for the attack and posted a video showing several people entering the area where the vehicles were parked and placing Molotov cocktails near the vehicles.
The incident is under investigation.
