Pope Francis' condition remains stable - 1

Pope Francis spent a peaceful night and his condition is stable, the Vatican announced this morning, Agence France-Presse reported, quoted by BTA.

The Holy See's statement says that the 88-year-old head of the Roman Catholic Church is doing well from treatment for pneumonia.

"The night was peaceful, the Pope is resting", the Vatican summarized in a morning briefing on the health of the Pope, who has been staying in an apartment in the Rome hospital "Gemelli" since February 14.

Last night, the Holy See said that Francis is doing well from treatment for pneumonia in both lungs, with his condition improving slightly and gradually.

The traditional Sunday prayer in "St. Peter" Square in the Vatican was canceled for the fourth consecutive week, DPA notes.

Francis is the second-oldest pope in history. Thursday will mark 12 years since he took over the Roman Catholic Church.

The Argentine succeeded Benedict XVI as pope. The German retired from the throne of St. Peter in 2013 at the age of 85 and died at the age of 95.
