Pro-Russian Calin Georgescu will not be allowed to participate in the presidential elections in Romania.
Georgescu's candidacy was canceled by the Central Electoral Bureau. Four of the bureau members voted "for" and 10 - "against" the candidacy, Darik Radio specifies.
In front of the headquarters of the body, the politician's supporters clashed with the gendarmerie. The situation is currently under control.
Georgescu won the first round of the last presidential elections, but the Constitutional Court of Romania canceled the second round after intelligence documents declassified by the president's office listed "aggressive Russian hybrid actions" of his team, including cyberattacks.
The documents also describe the massive promotion of Georgescu on social media in the run-up to the vote, especially on TikTok.
New elections will be held in May.
