FT: Ukraine nears disaster in Kursk after US emergency decision - 1

The situation in the Kursk region could turn into a disaster for the Ukrainian army after the US last week abruptly cut off intelligence assistance to Kiev, the FT reported.

The effect of the cutoff was immediate. In the first days, without US support, Ukrainian troops were forced to give up much of the Russian territory they had seized last year in the Kursk region.

The situation is worsening as the Ukrainian army is left without vital US support ahead of talks with the US in Saudi Arabia this week. The situation in Kursk is very serious and could turn into a catastrophe if urgent measures are not taken, a Ukrainian source said.

The publication recalls that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly emphasized that control over the Kursk region will be used as leverage during future negotiations with the Russian Federation.

The roads that Ukraine uses to supply its troops in the Kursk region are now under constant attack by suicide drones. Intelligence assistance from the United States is of utmost importance to Ukraine and its military capabilities.

Last week, the CIA announced that it was suspending the exchange of intelligence information with Ukraine. However, US President Donald Trump said last night that the United States “almost“ have ended the hiatus in intelligence sharing with Ukraine and that he expects good results from upcoming talks with Ukrainian officials in Saudi Arabia, the “Reuters“ agency reported. Asked whether he would end the hiatus in intelligence sharing with Ukraine, Trump replied: “We almost did it. We almost did it“.
