The UN Security Council will meet on March 12 behind closed doors to discuss the sharp increase in Iran's enriched uranium stockpiles, Reuters reports, News.bg reports.
The meeting was called at the request of six member states - France, Greece, Panama, South Korea, Britain and the United States. They are demanding that Iran provide the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) with the necessary information about unspecified amounts of undeclared nuclear material found in various locations in the country.
Although Tehran denies that it is developing nuclear weapons, it continues to enrich uranium to 60% purity - a level approaching the 90% needed to create a nuclear bomb. Western countries emphasize that such high enrichment has no peaceful uses and that no other country has done it without the intention of producing nuclear weapons.
In response, Britain, France and Germany have said they are ready to renew all international sanctions against Iran if necessary to prevent the country from acquiring nuclear weapons.
