The Israeli Air Force again attacked targets in southern Syria, the Israeli army announced this morning in a statement, quoted by DPA, BTA reports.
Israeli fighter jets carried out overnight strikes on radar systems, command centers and weapons depots, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said.
The IDF said the targets posed a threat to Israel and its military, and the strikes were carried out to eliminate “future threats“.
The Israeli military has significantly increased its military operations in Syrian territory since the fall of President Bashar al-Assad in December.
Israel has deployed troops in the demilitarized buffer zone between the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights and neighboring Syria, including on the Syrian side of Mount Hermon.
Syria's new president, Ahmed al-Sharaa, along with his interim government, has called on Israel to immediately withdraw from Syrian territory.
The seizure of Syrian territory by Israel has also faced criticism on the international stage, DPA notes.
The Golan Heights are a strategically important rocky plateau, about 60 km long and 25 km wide. It was captured by Israel in 1967 and annexed in 1981, but this annexation is not recognized by the international community, DPA emphasizes.
