Pope Francis has received encouraging news from his doctors that according to updated forecasts his life is now out of danger, the Associated Press reported, BTA reported.

The Holy Father has been in hospital for almost a month with bilateral bronchopneumonia - the most serious health crisis for him since he became pope 12 years ago.

However, the 88-year-old Francis is still not completely healthy. Doctors are still cautious about his health and have decided to keep him in hospital for a few more days to receive further treatment, not counting the rehabilitation period he will likely need.

Doctors said the pope's condition remains stable and has improved in recent days, according to blood test results and a good response to treatment.

Pope Francis, who has a chronic lung condition, still takes supplemental oxygen during the day and uses an oxygen mask at night to help him breathe.

In its morning update on the pope's condition today, the Vatican said he woke up around 8 a.m. after a restful night.

Since being in the Gemelli hospital, the pope has been regularly sleeping in, considering that his usual wake-up time in the Vatican is around 4:30 a.m. morning.

Last night, doctors reversed their “cautious” prognosis for the pope, meaning they determined that he was no longer in immediate danger from the initial respiratory infection he was admitted to hospital with on February 14. However, their caution remains, given Pope Francis' fragile health and the risks of other complications.

“Given the complexity of the clinical picture and the serious infectious picture on admission, it will be necessary to continue drug therapy in hospital for a few more days,” the Vatican statement said.
