Shots fired at Iraqi consulate in Istanbul with Kalashnikovs

The Iraqi consulate in Istanbul was attacked by unknown individuals, there are no reports of casualties among the diplomatic mission staff, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry reported.

“Unknown individuals armed with Kalashnikovs approached the Iraqi consulate in Istanbul on Friday and fired at least eight bullets at the diplomatic mission building, then fled the scene of the crime“, said a press release published on the official Telegram channel of the Iraqi Foreign Ministry. The MFA added that the consul general and diplomatic mission staff are investigating the details of the incident. There is no information on whether any diplomatic staff were injured.

The street around the diplomatic mission has been blocked and Turkish authorities have “launched an investigation into the incident”. For its part, Baghdad expressed its readiness to cooperate with Ankara "in order to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident and bring those responsible to justice," the Iraqi Foreign Ministry stressed.
