Turkey has demanded an explanation from Greece over the chanting of offensive slogans against Ankara by representatives of the Greek armed forces during the Greek National Day parade on Tuesday in the Greek capital Athens, the Anadolu Agency reported, citing a source in the Turkish Foreign Ministry.
According to reports, the incident was described by the ministry as an unacceptable attempt to undermine Turkish-Greek relations.
As the Greek publication “Proto Thema“ specifies, the diplomatic incident was caused by cadets from the Naval Sergeant School. Although chanting during the parade is prohibited, they shouted “Cyprus is Greek“, followed by an obscene insult to Turkey, which in 1974 occupied the northern part of the island.
According to the information, the General Staff of the Hellenic Navy reacted immediately and initiated disciplinary proceedings against the cadets involved.
