Americans insist on a new comprehensive agreement to control Ukraine's minerals and energy

Ukraine has not assessed the new US proposal on fossil fuels and is therefore unlikely to sign the agreement, writes the Financial Times, citing Ukrainian sources.

According to the newspaper, the agreement could undermine Ukraine's sovereignty and also transfer all profits abroad. This will increase Kiev's dependence on Washington, the article states.

"One of them described the terms as unfair, and another called them robbery“, the newspaper writes.

It is noted that the third source stated that Ukraine had requested assistance from a group of legal advisers to study the document and prepare a counter-proposal.

Verkhovna Rada deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak said on March 27 that the new terms of the agreement between Ukraine and the United States on mineral resources cover all mineral resources, including oil and gas, on the entire territory of the country. The contract, according to the new American draft, has no deadline and no security guarantees.

US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky were supposed to sign an agreement on rare earth metals on February 28, but the signing was canceled as a result of bickering in the White House. On March 2, Volodymyr Zelensky said he was still ready to sign the deal and hoped to salvage relations with the United States.
