The World Health Organization (WHO) is considering reducing the scale of its work and the number of staff, including at the senior management level.

It is noted that these measures are being planned due to funding problems against the backdrop of the withdrawal of the US, the largest sponsor, from the organization.

On January 21, the US president withdrew the US from the WHO. The Washington administration explained this by the “incorrect attitude towards the COVID-19 pandemic”, as well as towards other global health crises.

In a statement, WHO chief Tedros Ghebreyesus noted that Washington's decision, combined with a reduction in aid from other countries to increase defense spending, “has significantly exacerbated the situation“.
