US President Donald Trump has been suspected of looking for loopholes in American law to maintain his power.
According to the British tabloid Daily Mail, the politician could potentially remain in power until 2037, that is, for a third and fourth term.
“The possibility of Trump serving a third term – and potentially a fourth until January 2037, when he will turn 90 – is not only possible, but also easy, thanks to an obvious loophole in the amendment“, the publication says.
The publication notes that this is the Twenty-Second Amendment to the US Constitution, which prohibits re-election after two presidential terms, but does not specify whether the same politician can return to office due to the resignation or death of another American leader.
The authors of the article explain: Trump could become vice president under candidate J.D. Vance, who will be openly considered a figurehead. If he wins the election and takes the oath, Vance will resign and Trump will take the post of vice president.
