Rescue teams managed to pull a pregnant woman alive from under the rubble of a collapsed building in Myanmar, but she died shortly after, reported Agence France-Presse, quoted by BTA.

The woman was found in the city of Mandalay 50 hours after the earthquake, which has so far claimed the lives of about 1,700 people in Myanmar alone and was also felt strongly in neighboring Thailand, Vietnam and China.

Search operations continue in the country, but the smell of decomposing bodies is already starting to waft through major cities, notes the Associated Press.

The death toll in the Bangkok earthquake has risen to 18, and 76 people are still missing, the capital's disaster response headquarters said.

All of the missing were involved in the construction of the Auditor General's Office building in the Chatuchak district of northern Bangkok. A search and rescue operation is currently underway. A total of 11 people have died at the facility. City authorities said "signs of life" were found under the rubble on Sunday. "Relevant agencies remain hopeful and are stepping up their round-the-clock work as the third day begins," the statement said.

Thai authorities have approved a 200 million baht ($5.8 million) fund to help those whose homes were damaged by the disaster. “The Thai government would like to assure foreign residents that business operations, hospitals and services for both tourists and locals have fully resumed,“ the headquarters said.
