The Palestinian Red Crescent reported that it had found 14 paramedics and members of other services whose fate was unknown after Israeli shooting at ambulances in the Gaza Strip, reported Agence France-Presse, quoted by BTA.
"The number of bodies recovered stands at 14 at this time, including 8 ambulance drivers of Palestine Red Crescent teams, 5 members of the Civil Defense and one employee of the UN agency“, the Palestinian Red Crescent announced.
The organization is referring to the Red Crescent and Civil Defense teams, about which there was no news after Israeli soldiers opened fire on ambulances on March 23, recalls Agence France-Presse press.
The Israel Defense Forces said in a statement that suspicious vehicles approached Israeli soldiers who had just "eliminated several Hamas terrorists" in southern Gaza last Sunday, DPA recalls.
„Initial investigation indicates that the vehicles were moving without prior coordination and without headlights or emergency lights“, after which Israeli soldiers opened fire on the vehicles, the Israeli forces said.
„Following an initial investigation, it was determined that some of the suspicious vehicles that were moving towards the military were ambulances and fire engines“, the Israeli army added.
The Israel Defense Forces condemned „the repeated use of civilian infrastructure by terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip, including the use of medical facilities and ambulances for terrorist purposes“.
The army statement did not address the issue of the missing paramedics.
