German Foreign Minister Analena Berbock warned today in Kiev that the US should not be misled by the tactics of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who, according to her, uses “delay“ as a strategy, BTA reports.
Alana Berbock arrived in the Ukrainian capital on an unannounced visit due to security reasons, DPA reports.
"At the upcoming meeting of NATO foreign ministers, we will state categorically that the US should not be carried away by these tactics," she said in an official statement after her arrival in Kiev. According to the German diplomat, Putin “simulates a desire for negotiations, but in reality does not give up even a millimeter“ and is using the situation to buy time and continue its military aggression against Ukraine.
Beerbock stressed that Ukraine is ready to immediately conclude a ceasefire agreement. She also assured that the next German government will continue its significant support for Kiev.
"Germany has already allocated an additional 130 million euros in humanitarian aid and stabilization funds to Ukraine in response to the Russian attacks," she added.
According to her, in the context of the stalemate in negotiations between the US and Russia, it is of strategic importance for Europe to demonstrate firm support for Ukraine. "We must show that we stand behind Kiev without "ifs" and "buts" - now more than ever," the German Foreign Minister concluded.
