At least 16 are now the victims of the current floods and storms in the American South and in the Midwest of the United States, accompanied by torrential rains, mostly since Wednesday in the states from Ohio to Texas, the Associated Press reported, quoted by BTA.
Ten of the victims are in the state of Tennessee, the US National Weather Service reported.
A 57-year-old man drowned in the flood on Friday night after trying to save himself by getting out of his car swept away by the water in West Plains, Missouri.
Also on Friday, a nine-year-old boy died after being caught in a flood on his way to school in Kentucky, and on Saturday, a 74-year-old man was found lifeless in his completely submerged car in Nelson County, the same state, local authorities reported.
The water element also killed a 5-year-old child on Saturday in Little Rock, Arkansas, according to information from the police.
Earlier this week, tornadoes devastated entire neighborhoods, causing at least 7 of the deaths, the AP added.
