It is very difficult for Russia to imagine the start of talks with the United States on a new treaty to reduce nuclear weapons, given that mutual trust with Washington has not yet been fully restored. This was stated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, quoted by Reuters, reports News.bg.
His remarks were in response to a question about the prospects for replacing the New START strategic arms reduction treaty, which expires in February 2026.
The treaty limits the number of strategic nuclear warheads that the United States and Russia can deploy, as well as the deployment of land-based and submarine-launched missiles and bombers to deliver them.
It is the last remaining pillar of nuclear arms control between the world's two largest nuclear powers.
