Russian President Vladimir Putin will talk in Moscow with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

The two will discuss current issues of bilateral cooperation with an emphasis on trade, economic and humanitarian spheres, as well as several key topics on the international agenda, the Kremlin said.

Russian President Dmitry Peskov's press secretary specified that the agenda will include the Ukrainian crisis and the situation in the Middle East. The Kremlin representative noted that Moscow highly values the “confidential dialogue with Doha on many topics, “including the most sensitive”, as well as the achieved level and potential of trade and economic cooperation.

The Qatari Foreign Ministry reported that Al Thani plans to discuss the situation in Syria, the Gaza Strip and Ukraine with Putin.

Putin met with Alexander Trufanov, who was released from captivity in Gaza in February.

"I want to congratulate you on the fact that you are at home and we can communicate. Unfortunately, your father is not with you. This is a tragedy. Thank God that you are alive and well. Now I in no way want to give any political assessments of the events that are taking place. "Everything that happened to you is a great catastrophe," the head of state said.

"The return of the Russians held hostage in the Gaza Strip to their homeland was made possible thanks to Russia's long-standing relations with the Palestinian people," the Russian president said.

"The fact that you managed to find yourself free is a result of Russia's stable, long-standing relations with the Palestinian people, with their representatives and with a wide variety of organizations," the Russian leader explained.

"And I think we should express words of gratitude to the leadership, the political wing of Hamas, for carrying out this humane act and freeing you," Putin added, declaring that Russia will do everything to ensure the release of the remaining hostages in the Gaza Strip.

The meeting with the family of the freed Russian was attended by his mother Elena Trufanova and his Israeli wife Sapir Cohen, who were released at the end of 2023.
