The Colombian government declared a state of emergency across the country late last night due to a sharp increase in yellow fever cases, Reuters reports, BTA reports.
Health Minister Guillermo Alfonso Jaramillo said that 74 confirmed cases of the disease have been registered since the beginning of 2024, 34 of them fatal.
Yellow fever is an acute viral disease transmitted by the bite of infected mosquitoes. Health authorities are calling for increased prevention and vaccination measures in affected areas.
