Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Cambodia on a two-day state visit aimed at further strengthening the already strong bilateral relationship, the Associated Press reported, BTA reports.
The visit is Xi's first to Cambodia since 2016 and marks the end of his three-nation tour of Southeast Asia, which also includes Vietnam and Malaysia.
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen described China as an "important and irreplaceable friend" that has provided substantial support for the country's economic and social development.
Xi Jinping was solemnly welcomed at the airport in the capital Phnom Penh by King Norodom Sihamoni. During his visit, he will meet with Prime Minister Hun Sen and Senate President Hun Sen, Hun Sen's father and former prime minister of Cambodia.
Trade is expected to be a major topic of discussion, amid the high tariffs imposed by the United States on Cambodia. In addition to the standard 10 percent tariff imposed by the Trump administration, the country faces a potential new rate of 49 percent after a 90-day grace period.
Several agreements on cooperation in various sectors are also expected to be signed, as well as discussions on key regional and international issues.
