Iran: If the US only wants us to stop developing nuclear weapons, we might come to an agreement - 1

The US and Iran could easily reach an agreement in the Oman talks if Washington's only demand was that Tehran stop developing nuclear weapons. This was stated by Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Majid Takht-Ravanchi in an interview with the state-run Radio and Television of Serbia.

"The Americans say that Iran should not have nuclear weapons. We insist that we are not interested in nuclear weapons. So, if the only demand of the Americans is that Iran not have nuclear weapons, we will have a new agreement," Takht-Ravanchi noted.

According to the Iranian diplomat, if all participants in the talks in Oman "have political will", then it will be possible to reach a new agreement.

"But if someone wants to include other things in the negotiations and thus complicate the work, we will not succeed," emphasized the deputy head of the Islamic Republic's Foreign Ministry.

The first round of consultations between the Iranian and US delegations will be held on April 12 in Oman.

The main negotiators will be Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US President's special envoy Stephen Witkoff. According to statements from the Iranian side, the negotiations will not be conducted directly, but with the mediation of the host country.

For her part, State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce said that the upcoming event could be described more as a meeting than as negotiations.
