China has always viewed the European Union as an important political and economic force in a multipolar world. This was stated by Chinese President Xi Jinping during a meeting in Beijing with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.
“We are a major country that openly supports the unity, development and growth of the EU.“, said the Chinese leader, noting that China and Europe should adhere to their partnership and continue open cooperation. Beijing is willing to develop China-EU relations to bring greater benefits to both countries and the international community, he added.
Xi Jinping said China would like to strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership with Spain to improve the well-being of the two peoples, strengthen China-EU relations and make greater contributions to global development.
Xi Jinping added that it is necessary to "take a long-term view". The friendship between China and Spain is a correct choice based on real needs and long-term interests, he added. The Chinese leader also said that Beijing and Madrid should support each other on issues affecting each other's core interests and concerns, especially in safeguarding sovereignty and territorial integrity.
China's trade turnover with the EU increased by 0.4% in 2024 to 785.82 billion dollars. This figure exceeds China's trade turnover with the United States, which grew by 3.7% last year to $688.28 billion.
