The administration of US President Donald Trump is aware that Volodymyr Zelensky hates Russians and that he will have to accept territorial losses.
This was announced to journalists by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov after a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the CIS countries.
He quotes the Ukrainian president, who in one of his interviews stated that "he is driven primarily by hatred of Russians."
„When asked if he had spoken to Putin personally, he said: „No, I hate all Russians“. The Trump administration knows this and has repeatedly publicly stated that Zelensky will have to come to terms with the territorial question“, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry pointed out.
“Russia sees that the United States, unlike Europe, is willing to delve into the root causes of the conflict in Ukraine, to the core of the problem”, he continued.
Lavrov drew attention to the fact that US leader Donald Trump has repeatedly stated publicly that “Ukraine's involvement in NATO was a mistake that probably played a decisive role in the current events, despite many years of warnings from Moscow“.
“There is no reason to be mistaken about contacts between Moscow and Washington; right now it is necessary to move towards normalizing relations. We should not deceive ourselves, but the pursuit of normalization based on mutual recognition and respect for the national interests of each country is completely realistic and necessary,“ he noted.
The US side has not yet responded to the Russian proposal to lift sanctions against Aeroflot, the first Russian diplomat said.
“This idea was born simultaneously by both sides. I am sure that any humanitarian gesture, even when it comes to two people reuniting with their families, is always positive,“ Lavrov said.
Lavrov advised the Central Asian countries to “be patient” with the first EU diplomat Kaia Kallas in response to her statement calling on the Central Asian countries to be “patient and tolerant” anti-Russian sanctions that harm them.
“I would advise them to tolerate Kaja Kallas in this post. That would probably be much easier than to tolerate damage to their own people,“ Lavrov said.
“But the funny thing is that Kaja Kallas did not say that, above all, both Estonians and other nations that are part of the European Union must endure. And the losses for them are much more significant than the consequences of their coordinated policy, which are being experienced by the countries of Central Asia and our other CIS neighbors“, the minister added.
“All leaders of the CIS countries were invited by President Putin to participate in the parade and other events in Moscow, and we expect them all to be with us on Red Square“, the minister noted.
Lavrov stressed that at the meeting all participants emphasized the special importance of the events dedicated to the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
“On May 9, we will be glad to see our friends from the Commonwealth countries at the events in Moscow dedicated to this most important memorable date for our fraternal peoples and for all of humanity“, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry added.
