In order to reach an agreement with Iran on Tehran's nuclear program, US President Donald Trump is likely ready to make concessions, "Axios" reported, citing its sources.

According to the media, in the event of a positive outcome of the indirect negotiations in Muscat (Oman), a direct dialogue between Trump's special envoy Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi later on April 12 or 13.

Reuters earlier reported, citing a source, that consultations between Iranian and US representatives aimed to reduce tensions in the region, exchange prisoners and ease sanctions in exchange for "control" over Iran's nuclear program.

The first round of talks between Iranian and US delegations, led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi of the Islamic Republic and US President's special envoy Steve Witkoff, were held today in Muscat. Araghchi said before the meeting that the consultations would only concern the nuclear file, and that other issues could be discussed if the talks continue.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Telegram that indirect talks with the United States in Oman on Tehran's nuclear program had taken place in a "productive and positive atmosphere," Reuters reported.

Araghchi added that after the indirect talks, the two delegations had a brief meeting in person.

For his part, Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad bin Hamud al-Busaidy, who was a mediator in the talks, wrote on Telegram that the US-Iran talks had taken place in a "friendly atmosphere conducive to the convergence of points of view."

The second round of talks between Iran and the US is likely to take place on April 19, the Iranian foreign minister said minutes ago. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, with the aim of discussing the broad framework of a potential agreement, Reuters reported.

Iran and the United States held talks in Oman on Monday, a dialogue aimed at addressing Tehran's escalating nuclear program. U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened military action if a deal is not reached with Iran on the issue.

Iran's foreign minister added that the venue for the new round of talks may not be in Oman, but they will still be held with Omani mediation.

"Neither side seeks fruitless talks or talks that are a waste of time," Araghchi told state television of the Islamic Republic.
