US demands Gazprom gas pipeline from Ukraine - 1

The US has demanded that Kiev hand over the Gazprom gas pipeline, which runs through Ukrainian territory to the EU, to US control. This was revealed by "Reuters", citing its source.

This provision was an unexpected detail that the Ukrainian delegation discovered in the draft agreement prepared by the US. The agency's interlocutor called it an "Easter egg".

The US side wants the pipeline to be controlled by the International Development Finance Corporation, which is under the control of the US government.

According to "Reuters" The talks in Washington on rare earth minerals have been held in a hostile atmosphere due to excessive US demands.

The hopes of a breakthrough and a deal have been dimmed by the Trump administration's maximalist demands, Reuters reported.

In March, the Financial Times reported that the US was working to restart Nord Stream 2.

The work is being led by the project's former CEO Matthias Warnig with the support of American investors, and some prominent members of Donald Trump's presidential administration are familiar with the initiative and see it as an opportunity as part of efforts to restore relations with Russia and a strategic asset that can be used in peace talks on the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.

Later, Bild reported revealed that US President Donald Trump's special envoy, Richard Grenell, had visited Switzerland several times unofficially to discuss the possibility of concluding an agreement on the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which would deliver Russian gas to Germany.

In late March, another draft agreement was sent to Kiev, which did not mention direct security guarantees.

Despite the lack of security guarantees, the terms outlined in the framework may come as a relief to Ukraine, with Trump abandoning his initial demand for $500 billion in compensation for military support already provided. Zelensky said on Wednesday that the success of the minerals deal would depend on negotiations with Trump, citing the lack of firm US security guarantees.
