Deputy head of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev called German chancellor candidate Friedrich Merz a “Nazi“ for his proposal to strike the Crimean bridge. In a post on the social network X, Medvedev made a personal attack, recalling that Merz's father served in the Wehrmacht during Hitler's reign, Focus reports.
“Chancellor candidate Fritz Merz is haunted by memories of his father, who served in Hitler's Wehrmacht. Now Merz is proposing to strike the Crimean bridge. Think twice, Nazis!“, Medvedev wrote.
The reason for the reaction of the former Russian president was a statement by the leader of the German conservatives Friedrich Merz, who said he supports the delivery of Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine, provided that the decision is coordinated with European Union partners. According to him, the Ukrainian army, although in a defensive position, should have the opportunity to attack the logistical routes of Russian forces, including the Crimean bridgehead.
Kiev has long insisted on the delivery of Taurus, German-Swedish cruise missiles with a longer range than the British Storm Shadow, which have already been provided to the Ukrainian army.
Moscow has repeatedly warned that the use of Western long-range weapons against targets on Russian territory would be seen as a direct involvement of NATO in the conflict, TASS agency recalls.
