Attacks on several French prisons were carried out last night. This was confirmed by Justice Minister Gerald Darmanin, quoted by "Reuters", reports News.bg.
He announced that he would travel to the city of Toulon in the southern part of the country, where the local prison is among the targets of attacks.
„Attempts were made to intimidate employees in several prisons, including by setting vehicles on fire and firing automatic weapons“, Darmanin wrote on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
„I am going to Toulon to support the affected employees. The French Republic is firmly confronting the problem of drug trafficking and is taking action that will dismantle criminal networks on a large scale,“ the minister added.
Details of the damage or possible casualties are not yet known. French authorities do not rule out the possibility that the attacks were coordinated and in response to increased action against organized crime.
