The US administration will easily win a case in the Supreme Court to abolish the right to citizenship by birth in the country, because it is related to slavery, US President Donald Trump said.
“I think this case was misunderstood. This right to citizenship by birth is related to slavery. If you look at it from that perspective, people understand it. But for some reason, lawyers are not talking about it, the media are not reporting it“, the head of state emphasized. If you look at the issue that way, this case is easily won“.
After taking office on January 20, Trump signed an executive order restricting citizenship by birth. The document provides for restrictions on granting American citizenship at birth to children of illegal immigrants.
The next day, authorities from 22 states turned to US courts to challenge the decree. Later, several courts in different states temporarily blocked the document. In mid-March, the Washington administration asked the Supreme Court to overturn the decisions of lower courts that blocked the order. The Supreme Court said it would hear arguments from both sides.
