The administration of US President Donald Trump has failed to charm Europe with its customs policy and lectures on freedom of speech, writes The Times.
Trump's special representative Steve Witkoff tried to reassure Europeans during the Ukraine summit at the Elysee Palace. However, everything quickly went wrong, the newspaper reports.
During his visit to Paris, Witkoff called the Elysee Palace "beautiful". But everything went wrong when he continued:
“It actually looks like President Trump's Mar-a-Lago club,“ said Trump's representative.
The authors of the article note that the French made little attempt to hide their displeasure.
"Everyone was surprised by the comparison between the flashy Florida chic that is Trump's residence and the neoclassical building that predates the United States itself," the publication notes.
