US Vice President J.D. Vance said that Washington expects both Ukraine and Russia to give up some territories in order to reach a peace agreement, Ukrinform reported, citing information from Bloomberg, BTA reported.
According to the American politician, the demarcation line will probably not coincide exactly with the current front line, but it will be close to it.
"The current lines (on the front) or something close to them is where, I think, the new lines in the conflict can be drawn," Vance said during his visit to India.
This means that both Ukraine and Russia will have to give up some territories that they currently control, he added. "Some territorial swaps will be required", Vance said.
Now is the time for the parties to accept the American proposal, or Washington will abandon the negotiation process, the vice president believes. "It is time for them (both parties) to either say "Yes", or the United States will abandon this process," Vance stressed.
Last week, US President Donald Trump warned that he was ready to abandon efforts to end the war in Ukraine if an agreement between the parties is not reached soon, Ukrinform recalls.
